Enesco’s wild rhapsody sets this program in motion. Then, you’re off to discover two visions of the same country; the America that Dvorák came to visit in 1892, and the America of today. Premiered out of town in 2009 under Neal’s baton, Michael Daugherty’s exciting electric guitar concerto now comes to our stage. Inspired by the quilting community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, this music takes you from rock to blues to classical and back again.
Gee’s Bend is the subject of the March 25th Classical Connections. The same American spirit, albeit with a Bohemian accent, is evident in Dvorák’s not-to-be-missed
New World Symphony No. 9.
