The Legends season opens with a mini-festival devoted to Russia’s musical son, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His tunefulness, heartfelt romanticism, and picturesque orchestration have assured him favored status among music lovers everywhere. Here, we present an engaging range of his works: a symphonic poem based on Romeo and Juliet, another spotlighting the cello, one for string orchestra and his Symphony No. 2, which reflects Tchaikovsky’s fondness for folk song. For Rococo Variations we welcome exciting Cincinnati wunderkind, Coleman Itzkoff. The companion Classical Connections concert focuses on Tchaikovsky and his second symphony.
